Virginia Helen Oman

Virginia Helen Oman, 95, of Duluth, MN, passed away on October 4, 2021 at Aftenro Home.

Virginia was born in Brooks, MN on August 30, 1926 to James & Inga Parsley.

Virginia was raised on a farm and attended a one room school house. She then went to high school in McIntosh, MN and graduated in June 1944. She started working in the potato fields in North Dakota so she could earn enough money to purchase a train ticket to Duluth. While in Duluth she started working as a nanny. She attended the Arthur's Murray's Dance Studio, where the instructor put her and Jim Oman together because she thought that they made a good couple. Virginia and Jim were married in McIntosh.

Virginia spent the rest of her life living in Duluth. She was a homemaker and raised four children in the Morley Heights neighborhood. Virginia wanted to go back to work and applied at Duluth Avionics where she was quickly hired because of her ability of sewing and reading patterns. With her skills she was soldering component parts for the fighter jets used in Vietnam. After Duluth Avionics closed she then went to work at Jeno’s at the same building. When Jeno's closed she went to work at Aftenro Home until she retired.

She had beautiful gardens, loved taking long walks, trips and spending time with her family. Virginia didn't learn to drive until she was 60 and the first place she went was her hometown of McIntosh. 

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, James Oman; parents; sisters, Arlene and Daisy; brothers, Roy and Milo; and sister in-law, Alice Henson.

Virginia is survived by her daughters, Sandra Tinsley and Cynthia (Ralph) Talerico; sons, James (Sally) Oman and Jay (Jennifer Butcher) Oman; grandchildren, R.M. Tinsley, Christopher (Renae) Olson, Jami (Matthew) Melvin, Jerald Oman, Donna Talercio and Greg Talerico; great-grandchildren, Lee (Allyssa) Oman, Aeslynne Melvin, Marsaili Melvin, Tommy Talerico and Zoe Talerico; sisters, Ruth, Judy and Maurina; and many nieces and nephews. 

Virginia's family would like to thank the caring staff at Aftenro Home, they are wonderful.

A private funeral will be held at Sunrise Funeral Home in Hermantown, MN. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Aftenro Home, 510 W College St. Duluth, MN.
