Thomas Joseph Sharkey, M.D.

Thomas Joseph Sharkey, 71, of Cloquet, MN, passed away on August 25, 2020 after battling Multiple Sclerosis for over 25 years.

Thomas was born in Bridgeport, CT on December 5, 1948 to Joseph and Helen Sharkey. He went to Cathedral High School in Springfield, MA graduating in 1966. He attended Boston College, State of New York Downstate Medical School in Brooklyn, NY and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center and his Fellowship in Cardiology at Long Island Jewish-Hillside Medical Center in Queens, New York in 1979. He practiced in St. Paul, MN and Maplewood, MN. He retired from St. Paul Heart Clinic in 2002. Thomas was an avid reader, duplicate bridge player, and stamp collector. He also enjoyed music of many genres, including jazz and classical. He found peace sitting on the deck with a cup of coffee, a book and enjoying nature.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Kendra; sons, David and Stephen (Kristie) Sharkey; stepchildren, Sarah Miller and Philip (Angela) Wood; grandchildren, Finnegan, Taylor, Morgan, Ronan, Spencer and Avery); siblings, Patrick (Denise) Sharkey and Maureen Albano; and nieces and nephew.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Diamond Willow, Cloquet, MN and to St. Croix Hospice.

Due to Covid, there will be a private service with Rev. Kathryn Nelson officiating. Interment at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery. Donations may be made in Thomas' name to Doctors Without Borders, 333 7th Ave 2nd floor NY, NY 10001.
