Rosa Horst was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and dear friend to many, during her incredible 87 years of life. She passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, October 3, 2021 at Villa Marina, Superior, WI in the care of Essentia Health Hospice.
Rosa lived a long and full life. She was born on October 24th, 1933, in the country of Romania, to her parents Frank and Josephine Ehresmann. Rosa, her parents, and siblings were holocaust survivors and eventually were able to relocate to the United States.
Rosa moved to the United States in 1958 with her family and joined her parents and siblings here in America. One of Rosa’s proudest accomplishments was becoming an official American citizen in 1968. She proudly flew her American flag in her yard among her beautiful flower gardens.
Rosa moved to Maple, WI in 1968 with her four children and worked in the Maple School District as a cook and custodian from 1972 to 1991.
Rosa was a survivor; she showed courage and resiliency throughout her life. She shared her knowledge and faith with many longtime friends and family. She took pride in hard work and shared her positivity, good humor, and smile with all that knew her.
Rosa was preceded in death by her son, Ewald Horst; brothers, Ewald Ehresmann and Adolph Ehresmann.
Rosa will live on in the memories of her family and many lifelong friends including her son, Hermann (Mary) Horst; daughters, Siegrun Horst and Rosemarie (Ron) Alholm-Dick; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Boom and Gertrude (Ben) Brilla; brother, Karl (Sue) Ehresmann; sisters-in-law, Lois and Judy Ehresmann; daughter-in-law, Debbie Horst; along with many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Essentia Health Hospice, Solvay House, and Villa Marina. We would also like to acknowledge the University of Minnesota’s Anatomy Bequest Program for helping to ensure Rosa’s wishes are carried out by contributing to anatomy education and research. No burial will be held per Rosa’s wishes.
