Bob brought joy with his kind heart, laughter with his quick wit and comic relief, to the many people he met and loved throughout his life.
Robert “Bob” Duane Nelson, 88, of Hermantown passed away on May 4, 2023 at Edgewood Assisted Living.
Bob was born in Duluth, MN to Theodore “Ted” and Inez Nelson on February 23, 1935. He graduated from Hermantown High School in 1953 and served in the Army Reserves. He worked as a Sanitation Service small business owner for over 30 years and retired in 1987 at age 52. He also owned rental properties and was involved with other small business ventures.
Bob enjoyed owning a cabin on Boulder Lake, fishing, deer hunting, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, downhill skiing, roller skating, biking, and “rummage saling”.
He was a longtime member of Duluth Gospel Tabernacle, where he served as a board member and bus driver, and was involved in choir, Sunshiners, and the ship ministry. He often sang Gospel duets with his brother Roger. He hosted countless gatherings at his cabin for his church group, family and friends. He attended and enjoyed all his high school class reunions.
Bob was preceded in death by his brother, David.
Bob is survived by his brother, Roger; nephews, Joel and Jeffrey (Lindsey); niece, Jill Vegas; and many dear friends.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the many caring staff members at Edgewood.
An open house visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM on Monday, May 8th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown, with a funeral and committal service to follow at 1 PM. Interment at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery.
