Robert "Bob" Kosch Obituary

Robert "Bob" Harold Kosch of Duluth, MN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 31st at the age of 94.

Bob lived a full life and loved his wife and family deeply. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Air Force during the Korean War. He married Freda Kosch in Hinsdale, Illinois and recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Bob was born at home in Clarendon Hills, Illinois in the house his dad built and worked for General Motors Corporation Electro-Motive Division for 32 years. He believed in paying cash for everything and not getting in debt and that philosophy allowed him to retire at the age of 47. For over 40 years, he and Freda spent summers at the cabin in Minnesota where they went fishing and had fish fries with their growing family. After he retired, he and Freda traveled to Florida and Texas and visited Mexico during the winter for many years. Bob enjoyed gambling and he and Freda traveled to Puerto Rico, Las Vegas, Wendover and local casinos to try their luck, often times with a daughter or two in tow. From an early age with his brothers, Bob loved playing cards and spent countless nights playing card games with his children and grandchildren. Not only did he play cards, but he was good at it and won regularly. He loved music, and in his younger days, he and Freda would dance the Jitterbug and oftentimes clear off the dance floor. Bob believed that life should be fun and not taken too seriously. He told jokes often and sometimes laughed at his own jokes regardless of whether others thought they were funny, which made others laugh along too. Bob will be deeply missed.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Freda; parents, Tinnie (Grimmenga) and Paul Kosch; sister, Evelyn Furlong; and brothers, Bill, Paul, and George.

Bob is survived by his children Tina (Bruce) Welman, Melody (Larry) Bialke, and Debra Kosch; grandchildren, Trenton (Taylor), Brandon, and Katherine Welman, Alex (Lacey), and Severin (Ashley) Bialke; great-grandchildren, Eric and Clayton Welman, Wilder and Love Bialke, and Victor and Vivian Bialke; beloved nieces and nephews; and his dog, Benson.

A private joint ceremony for Bob and Freda Kosch will be held on September 23, 2022, at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery - Duluth.
