Robert Benson Kanuit

Robert Benson Kanuit, 76, of Hermantown, MN, died on April 24, 2021, in Lakewood Ranch, FL.

“Bob” was born in Duluth, MN to Joseph and Wilma Kanuit. He grew up on the Martin Road and attended Hermantown High School, graduating in 1962.

He married his high school sweetheart, Margie Kratt, in 1965. They were happily married for 55 years. 

After high school, Bob obtained an accounting degree at UMD, and then became a certified public accountant. After working for some large accounting firms for a few years, he was hired by Cutler Magner Company in Duluth to be its controller. He quickly ascended to vice president and chief financial officer of the company. He worked for Cutler Magner Company for over three decades. During that time, he and Clarence LaLiberte, the company president and one of its owners, became great friends.

After retirement, he and his wife lived on Island Lake for several years, creating many precious memories with their grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kate Belcher; and wife, Marge.

Bob is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Amy Kanuit of Esko; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Steve Syck of Wichita Falls, Texas; grandchildren, Connor Kanuit and his wife Kelsey, Sydney Kanuit and her fiancé Christian Comstock, Erik Syck, and Jillian Syck; his twin brother, Bill Kanuit; sister, Joanie Danzl; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial service to be held at 1pm on Friday, June 18, 2021 at Peace in Christ Lutheran Church in Hermantown.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials preferred to the Women’s Care Center in Duluth.
