Richard "Dick" Alan Lowry, 89, of Duluth, died on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 in Franciscan Health and Rehabilitation Center, holding Mary's hand.
Dick was born in Duluth on February 5, 1931 to Lillian and Raymond Lowry. He graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1949. He met the love of his life, Mary, in grade school and they have been together for over 74 years. They were married on August 22, 1953 at Holy Rosary Chapel. Dick worked with his dad at the Lowry Company, eventually taking ownership and running the company until it's closing in 1976. He then worked at Standard Brick in sales until 1981, and then for his friend, Ed Burg, at Lakehead Safety until he retired in Oct. 1994.
Dick and Mary raised six kids who he loved being with, especially at Lake Elora. He was very proud of his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids; family was everything to him. He was an active community member and volunteer. He was a leader with the Boy Scout Troop 53 at St. John's, a member of the Lake Avenue Loafers, and most recently a driver for Meals on Wheels, among many other things. Dick started deer hunting in 1947 and went every year after that, including last year at 88 years old. For the last few years, Dick and Mary have enjoyed the Ecumen Lakeshore Independent Living community and the many friends they have there.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia McDonald; brother, Robert; and great-grandson, Benjamin Dallum.
Dick is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Kathleen (Peter) Nielsen and Nancy (John) Dallum; sons, John (Becky), William (Crys), Patrick (Diane), and Michael (Jayne); grandchildren, Marcus (Amanda) Dallum, Timothy (Sarah) Dallum, Allison Dallum, Ian (Hailey) Lowry, Mary (Brett) Erickson, Tressa (Zach) Haataja, Katelyn (Chad) Naze, Daniel Lowry, Molly Lowry, Amie (Kyle) Brower, Torie Mlodozyniec, and Sarah Mlodozyniec; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the loving, caring staff at Franciscan.
Private family service to be held at a later date. Memorials preferred to The Women's Auxiliary at Ecumen Lakeshore, 4002 London Rd, Duluth, MN 55804.
