Raymond Daniel Soderholm, 82, of Hermantown, MN passed away on June 5, 2021 at Chris Jensen Health & Rehab Center with his family by his side.
Ray was born in Hermantown to Eldon and Ruby Soderholm (Kirking) on October 10, 1938. He graduated from Grand Rapids Agricultural School in 1956. He then earned a pipefitter’s apprenticeship diploma from United States Steel Corporation in 1967. He worked as a pipefitter for United States Steel from 1964 to 1974, then was employed at the DM&IR Railroad from 1974 to 2004 and continued working for CN Railroad until his retirement in 2006.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gene and David Soderholm; and sisters, Ruby Jensen and Susan Sullivan.
Ray is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jill Soderholm (Peterson); daughter, Tami Soderholm-McKean; son, Mark (Patti) Soderholm and Wendi (Duane III) Valure; seven grandchildren, Dustin Plaisted, Joshua (Sandra) Soderholm, Dawn Plaisted, Carli Soderholm, Taylor Ziegler, Averi Valure and Easton Valure; two great-grandchildren, Tori Thilmany and Hazel Soderholm; and sisters, Judy Ophus and Jeri and Ken Neeser.
Ray always said when asked how he was doing, “pretty good for an old guy.” He will be missed by all for his selfless and giving heart.
Open-house Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy.
