Phyllis Ann Vernon

Phyllis A. Vernon, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 29th, 2022, at Edgewood Assisted Living, Hermantown, Minnesota. She was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio on March 31st, 1938, to Leonard and Gladys Coon. Phyllis married James Vernon in 1956.  Phyllis and her husband retired in Arcadia, Florida in 2012. After 64 years of marriage, Jim passed away in 2020. Phyllis came to Duluth, Minnesota April 1st, 2022, to be with her daughter, Tori.

Phyllis was a member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Arcadia beginning in 2012-2022. She was a long-time member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Mt. Vernon from 1976 - 2012.  She was involved in Ladies Ministries and prayer groups at both churches; she was a prayer warrior and was always interceding for people.

She liked the simple things in life like going out to eat at McDonalds, getting frozen yogurt with her grandkids, going on long walks and listening to the Gaither Family band and other gospel music. She liked crafts and made beautiful wreaths and fleece shirts for her family.

Phyllis was a homemaker and mother, raising her three children, Jamie, Tori, and Darcy. Once her children were grown, she worked as a nursing assistant, personal care attendant and a hospitality aide in several nursing homes. Phyllis did not complete high school but went back to school at the age of 55 to complete her GED.  She also traveled over the road with her husband and visited 46 states.  In retirement they continued to travel for several years in their 5th wheel camper.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother; and one sister.

Phyllis leaves behind son, James E. Vernon II of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; two daughters, Tori (Steve) Brantal of Duluth, Minnesota, and Darcy (Scott) Carey of Galloway, Ohio; grandchildren, Christina Drake, James Vernon III, Jenni Vernon, and Traci Vernon from Ohio; Tana Harvey, Michael (Autumn) Harvey, Cassandra Harvey, and Rhea Leach all of Minnesota; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Mona (John) Wolford.

Memorial Service to honor the lives of both Phyllis and Jim Vernon and will be held at 5:00 PM on Saturday August 20th at the Apostolic Christian Church, 1635 Old Delaware Road, Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Please join us to celebrate their lives.
