Margaret Rae Kanuit, 76, of Hermantown, MN, died peacefully on April 21, 2021, in Lakewood Ranch, FL.
“Margie” was born in Duluth, MN to Reinhold and Ida Kratt. She grew up in Twig (close to Chipmunk Hill) and attended Proctor High School where she was a majorette and member of the marching band. She graduated in 1963.
She married her high school sweetheart, Bob Kanuit, in 1965. They were happily married for 55 years. Margie was well known for her graciousness, cooking skills, and fondness for taking care of others. She worked as a legal secretary after high school, then became a licensed practical nurse. She worked as an oral surgery nurse for many years while she raised her family in Hermantown. She was an avid tennis player and had a love for horses.
After retirement, she and her husband lived on Island Lake for several years, creating many precious memories with their grandchildren.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Roger Kratt.
Margie is survived by her husband, Bob, who died on April 24, 2021; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Amy Kanuit of Esko; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Steve Syck of Wichita Falls, Texas; grandchildren, Connor Kanuit and his wife Kelsey, Sydney Kanuit and her fiancé Christian Comstock, Erik Syck, and Jillian Syck; brother, Wayne Kratt; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial service to be held at 1pm on Friday, June 18, 2021 at Peace in Christ Lutheran Church in Hermantown.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials preferred to the Women’s Care Center in Duluth.
