Lawrence "Larry" Lavern Bjorlin

Lawrence “Larry” Bjorlin, 83, of Hermantown, MN; a husband, father, grandfather, eternal teacher of all things, passed away surrounded by family on September 19, 2021.

Larry was born on March 29, 1938 to Margaret (Andersen) and Albert Bjorlin in Duluth, MN. He was a 1956 graduate of Proctor High School and earned his B.A. in Education from UMD in 1960. He spent his 34-year teaching career with the Proctor School District, where he taught multiple generations of students the fine points of industrial arts and also driver’s education, retiring in 1994.

Larry married his high school sweetheart, Carol Opien, in 1957, and recently celebrated their 64th anniversary.

Larry was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, owning and operating his home-based motorcycle repair shop, Arrowhead Cycle. He helped many a traveler-in-need along the way, frequently offering the tree house or backyard as shelter to a biker with a mechanical issue. Larry enjoyed attending the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, including a 40-year streak that started in 1976. He loved spending time in the woods, often hunting deer and squirrels on his uncle’s farm near Danbury, WI.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents.

Larry is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Scott, Sheryl (Ken) Perko, Todd, Linda Solstrand and Ross (Marlo); grandchildren, Kari, Kristen, Parker, Alex and Evan; and brother, Bill.

Outdoor visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, Sept. 23rd at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, with outdoor celebration of Larry’s life to follow at 11:00 AM.
