Our beloved mom, grandma, aunt, cousin, and creative sewing genius has unexpectedly passed away.
Kathryn “Kay” Gwen Abrahamson Sehnke, 77, of Duluth, MN, has passed away on November 12, 2023 in her home.
She was born June 23, 1946 to Harvey and Lorraine (Gilberg) Abrahamson in Duluth. She attended elementary school in Piedmont and graduated from Hermantown High School in 1964.
Kay married Gary Sehnke from Hermantown and had 2 children, Kurt and Sandy. She was an amazing mom, grandmother, aunt, and friend with an extensive work history with retirement from St. Louis County Social Services.
Her creative joy was sewing. Kay could create amazing pieces from her daughter’s wedding dress to her granddaughter’s Halloween costume and everything in between.
In her later years, she created her own small business called Fancy Pants by Kay, where she created custom made pants, many for herself. Kay was always on the go, whether it was painting, knitting, sewing, crocheting, playing bingo with her girls, gardening, mowing her own lawn with her new electric lawn mower and her ability to do any home improvement project she put her mind to. She was doing what she loved until the very end.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Lorraine (Gilberg) Abrahamson and Harvey and Ellen Abrahamson; sisters, Melanie Wallis and Mary Roff; and ex-husband, Gary Sehnke.
Kay is survived by her son, Kurt (Virginia) Sehnke; daughter, Sandy (Derek) Anderson; beloved granddaughters, Ellina and Lauren Sehnke; grandson, Vincent Anderson; and several cousins and nieces.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Duluth PD with special recognition to Officer's Leibfried, Hussey, and Norlander for their compassion and professionalism to our family.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 27th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown MN, with Memorial Service to follow at 2:00 PM. She will be laid at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery.
