Karla Kay Sundvall, 86, passed peacefully, to be with Jesus her Lord, on February 15, at Edgewood Vista in Hermantown, MN. She was born October 7, 1935 to Madge and Clarence Davis, raised in Pinckneyville, IL. She lived a full life, a voracious reader, short story writer, accomplished pianist, fisherwoman, bridge player, Bulldog hockey fan, Twins baseball fan, and an activist in her communities. She returned to college in her 40's to achieve a double major in Social Work and English (writing focus) and then a Masters in Social Work followed by a satisfying career at United Hospital in St. Paul. She was married to Ken, in 1994, and retired with him to lake country living on 3rd Crow Wing Lake, Nevis. Favorite poem: "When I Am An Old Woman, I Shall Wear Purple.”
She was preceded in death by parents, husband Ken Sundvall, and his children Jeff and Cindy. She is survived by Vicki (Dave Holland) Carey of Minneapolis, Kyle (Mary Ann) Harriss of Duluth, Joan (Brad) Fujii of Skokie IL, Hugh (Jennifer) Harriss of Minneapolis, Jayson (Snow) Sundvall of Duluth, former spouse Donald Harriss of Hermantown, 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, special friends Geri McKee and Beth Niemi.
Heartfelt thanks to the many caregivers at Edgewood Vista and Caring Edge Hospice and their support to Karla and her family in this journey. On March 21 there will be a shared Memorial Service with Edgewood Community, led by Pastor Jim Joseph. A private family service will be held in the summer.
