Johnny’s life was one of determination and perseverance. He was an overcomer with great tenacity.
Johnny Boyd Powe Jr., 59, of Duluth was found deceased June 6, 2021 in his home. He was born March 19, 1962 in Duluth, Minnesota to Lela and Johnny Boyd Powe Sr. He was known for his work as a laborer, grain inspector, carpenter, and event coordinator. He had many talents and was a Jack-of-all-trades. He had a passion for his family and loved his children. He enjoyed music, singing, good food, sports, fast cars, and he prided himself in wearing a well put together outfit and cap. He loved to crack a joke and give advice. He received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as a young boy around the age of 9 and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Johnny was preceded in death by his son, Edmond Powe; and brothers, James Curtis Powe, Clifton (Chop) Boykin, Darrel Boykin, and Anthony (Tony) Boykin.
Johnny is survived by his mother, Lela El Fundi; father, Johnny Boyd Powe Sr.; step-father, Niko El Fundi; children, Hanif Powe, Taylor Powe, Jatif Powe, Selah (Zirae) Powe, Issa Powe, NSoah Powe, and Zayd Powe; sisters, Darlene Green, Evelyn Lawson, Johnnie Mae Powe, Debra Powe, and Bridget Wilkins; brothers, Sadiki El Fundi, Leon Boykin, Darius Boykin; 10 grandchildren; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at 1pm on Monday, June 14, 2021 at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, with Memorial Service to follow at 2pm. Repast will be held at the Community Action bldg., 2424 W 5th St #102, Duluth (please use side entrance on 23rd Ave W). Interment at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery.
