John Frederick Witte, 56, of Duluth, MN passed away on September 8, 2020 at home, surrounded by his loved ones.
John was born in Duluth, MN to Marge and George Witte in 1964. He went to Proctor High School and graduated in 1982. He continued on to earn a bachelor's degree in Criminology at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He began his work at the Federal Prison Camp in Duluth as an intern during his senior year of college and after graduating was hired on full time. He started his work there as a guard, but shortly became a Case Manager. He continued his work as a Case Manager for over 20 years before being promoted to Case Management Coordinator. He retired at the age of 54 after 29 years of service.
In his free time, John enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially at the family cabin in Isabella, MN. He loved to hunt for deer, ducks, and grouse; fish for walleye and trout; snowmobile down trails; and, of course, deliver his “witty” jokes and one-liners. He was also talented with his hands, frequently helping friends pour concrete or help them construct homes. In addition to helping build homes for friends, he built the house that he lived in for 24 years.
John was preceded in death by his father, George.
John is survived by his mother, Marge (88); wife, Judy (60); daughter, Julia (26); and son, Karl (23).
Public visitation to be held at 2 pm on Monday, September 14th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, following a private family service.
