John McLoughlin Obituary

John Phillip McLoughlin, 65, of Duluth died Friday, Nov. 13, 2020 at home.

John was born October 16, 1955, in Duluth to Phillip and Mary (Hatley) McLoughlin. He was a 1974 graduate of Duluth Denfeld High School, where he played football, hosted school talent shows, participated in theater, and produced films such as the Quegleys featuring many of his friends and fellow alumni.

John honed his passion for communication and film during his time spent at UMD and UWS, while performing with the Renegade Comedy Theater and Duluth Playhouse. He began his professional career with WDIO-TV, becoming a production manager, producing numerous shows for ESPN, and providing innovative coverage for the US Ski Association.

John had a deep love of music. He enjoyed playing guitar with friends, family, and several bands, including “Mr. Peabody and the Waybacks”. He was also a talented piano player.

John’s greatest passion was his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved getting together, listening to others, and sharing his thoughts about the world over a cup of coffee. John had a great heart, quick wit, a wonderful sense of humor, and an infectious and full-hearted laugh.

John was preceded in death by parents, Phillip and Mary McLoughlin; sister, Carolyn Russell; and nephew, Timothy Russell.

John is survived by his daughter, Molly (Clark) Anderson; son, Phillip (Ronni) McLoughlin; grandson, Ethan Nault; granddaughter, Ily Anderson; brother, Timothy McLoughlin; nephew, John M. McLoughlin; niece, Mary Russell; and many special cousins and friends.

A small, private ceremony will be held in accordance with current Covid-19 guidelines. The family looks forward to a large celebration with burial to honor John in the spring.
