John David Hanson 66 of Duluth, MN, died on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital.
John was born in St. Croix, WI. He grew up in Wyoming, MN, in a family of 8. At 17 he joined the Navy. He served for 14 years. His last ship he was on was the U.S.S. Belknap as a MR3 submarine repairman. He received a national defense service medal, M16 Rifle marksman, First good conduct award, battle Efficiency “E”, Third Sea service Deployment award, Navy Achievement Medal.
After getting out of the Navy in 1985, he met his future bride to be Darlene. They had many happy adventures riding the highways on his pearl red Harley sportster. It was the best time of there 35 years together. John was a member of the American Legion, DAV, And Wounded Warriors project.
John was preceded in death by his father, Robert; mother, Frances Hanson; and brothers, Bob and Lowell Hanson.
John is survived by his wife, Darlene; stepsons, Dean Meyer, Dana (Vicki) Meyer, and David (Kim) Meyer; grandchildren, Adam, Jen, Trevor, Sean, Jacob, Ryan and Kassie Meyer; and sisters, Liz (Don) Wittner, Sharon (Bob) Bratrud, Jerri Newberry and their families.
He will be greatly missed!
