Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Janet Scanlon passed away peacefully during the early hours of July 13, 2022, at Solvay Hospice House surrounded by family. In Jan’s 73 incredible years of life, she touched many hearts. She recently celebrated 53 years of marriage to her husband John. Jan’s smile was contagious, and she was kind to everyone around her. Her family has always described her as loving, supportive, humble, kind, and strong.
Jan was born in Duluth on February 17, 1949, to her parents Alvina and John “Jack” Johnson. She went to Proctor High School and graduated in 1967. Janet went on to work at the Airbase until it’s closing, and from there, retired from her job as Warehouse Supervisor at the Federal Prison Camp of Duluth in 2004.
She truly enjoyed spending time with her family. She was always there to cheer on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their sporting events. When she was unable to be at their events, she was sure to livestream on tv and text or call for updates. She loved her winter home in Tucson, AZ, especially when family and friends would come to vacation there. Jan also really enjoyed spending time at her daughter Jodi’s and son in law Jim’s cabin.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents.
Jan is survived by her husband, John ”Ooie” Scanlon; daughter, Jodi (Jim) Kehtel; grandchildren, Rayanna (Cody) Gaskell, Jonny and Ember Kehtel; great-grandchildren, Dawson and Bexley Gaskell; brother, John “Jack” Johnson; sister, Joan Smith; and let’s not forget about her fur baby, Scotch the cat.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Solvay Hospice House for the compassionate care provided to their beloved Jan.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 26th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Highway, Hermantown, with a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM.
