Janet Olcott Obituary

Janet Sara "Bubbles" Olcott, 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2020 in Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born January 30, 1937 in Morgan Park to Margaret and Hugo Hedeen.

Bubbles graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1955 and went on to work for U.S. Steel, Roger Dahl Claims Adjuster, and Summit Adjusting. She married Gene "Curtis" Olcott in 1958, and they had two children.

As an everlasting supporter of Morgan Park High School, and lifelong "Wildcat", Bubbles was committed to advocating for her community. She helped grow the Annual "Morgan Park All-Class Fall Lunch", and it filled her with such joy to have everybody get together once a year to catch up and reminisce. She was a devoted Catholic, and especially loved attending the coffee socials after church on Sunday's to catch up with all of her friends at St. Margaret Mary in Morgan Park. She and Curt loved to travel to California to see their friends, Gus and Diane, and play the slots in Reno. Bubbles kept a spotless home. To her grandkids, it always seemed like she was cleaning, and it always brought a laugh (or an eyeroll) when she would find the tiniest speck of dust or lint on the floor and go out of her way to pick it up. In her spare time, she loved to do crafts, watch her favorite shows, shop and go out to lunch (which always involved socializing), and collect many things. She loved to spend time with family and friends any chance she could get. Bubbles had never met a stranger, it seemed as though she made friends with everybody she met! She was known for her great sense of humor, her ready-smile, her generous, caring heart, her love for others, and of course, her wonderful cooking.

Bubbles was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Richard; sister, Joanne; and her husband of 63 years, Curtis, who she missed dearly.

Bubbles is survived by her children, James (Chris) Olcott and Bonnie (Allan) Boyhtari; grandchildren, Ross, Glen, Alissa, and Alec; many great-grandchildren; sister, Jane (Ray) Cosky; brother, James "Curt" (Beverly) Hedeen; Richard's wife, Mary Hedeen; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, Curtis's family, and so many dear and lifelong friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many neighbors, doctors, nurses, and caregivers that went above and beyond to keep Bubbles safe, healthy, and the social butterfly she was!

Although plans for a memorial are put on hold due to current circumstances, cards may be sent to 317 N 9th Ave W Duluth, MN 55806. We plan to fully celebrate Bubbles and Curtis when we can all safely be together.
