Janet Gloria Fierek of Duluth, MN passed away on April 12, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones at Suite Living in Brooklyn Park, MN. Janet was born in Duluth on April 5, 1932 as the second daughter of John and Hulda McCauley. She graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1950. Janet married Theodore Hubert in 1951 and together they raised six children. She remarried D. William "Spike" Fierek in 1981. They were married almost 40 years and had a blended family of nine children.
Janet was a secretary on the DWP railroad for many years. She was a life member of the American Legion Post 71 in West Duluth. She was very involved in the Women's Auxiliary where she served as 8th District President for two terms from 1982 to 1984.
Janet's beloved home of over 60 years was on the Whiteface Reservoir in northern Minnesota. In 1999, Janet and Spike began splitting their time between the lake and Sun City, AZ.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, D. William "Spike" Fierek; parents; and sister, Ione Forst.
Janet is survived by her children, Ted (Kim Magnuson) Hubert, Gloria Gren, Kenneth (Vicky) Hubert, Mary (Darrell Tilden) Dulmage, Beth Hubert, and Jack (Anne) Hubert; stepchildren, Rodney (Beth) Fierek, Robert (Maria) Fierek, and David (Kim) Fierek; 18 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
The family is deeply grateful to Suite Living of Brooklyn Park and Brighton hospice as she was well-cared for and loved during her last months. Janet will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation to be held at 10am on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown, with memorial service to follow at 11am. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service. There will be a celebratory toast to Janet at 12:30pm at the West Duluth American Legion, 5814 Grand Ave, Duluth.
