James "Jim" Hanson Obituary

James “Jim” Clayton Hanson, 93, of Hermantown, MN, passed away at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital, on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021.

Jim was born in Swan River Township, MN to Charles and Elizabeth Hanson, on Oct. 18, 1927. He graduated from North Central High School, Spokane, WA in 1945. He was a WWII and Korean War survivor. Jim worked at the N.E. Correctional Center for 29 years. He loved fishing, camping, and cribbage. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, in Hermantown. 

Jim was preceded in death by his siblings, Phyllis and George.

Jim is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Boyd (Kristi) Hanson and Karen (Doug) Swanberg; grandchildren, Lucas (Rebecca) Hanson, Ian (Courtney) Hanson, Benjamin Hanson, Gregory (Tiana) Swanberg, Rebecca (Caleb) Johnson, and Laura (Brock) Armington; great-grandchildren, Layla Hanson, Malachi Hanson, Shepherd Swanberg, Addison Johnson, Sawyer Armington, Gunnar Swanberg, Duke Johnson, Wells Armington, and Archer Swanberg; and brother, William (Wanda) Hansen.

Private family graveside service will be at the MN State Veterans Cemetery Duluth. Memorial donations can be made to the MN Veterans Home, for their loving care of Jim, at 56 Outer Drive, Silver Bay, MN 55614.
