Dexter Roy Liljegren, 90, of Hermantown, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020 in North Shore Estates.
Dex was born in Duluth on November 6, 1929 to Roy and Sadie Liljegren. He grew up in Hermantown and graduated from Hermantown High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was a proud Korean War Veteran. He met the love of his life, Viola, and they married in 1955. They owned Pike Lake Hardware which he and Viola ran for over 20 years with their children. He was a talented tile setter prior to and after owning the store.
Dex loved to garden, and to play golf, card games, bowl, and spent hours working on jigsaw puzzles. He was a MN sports fan and enjoyed attending sporting events, especially watching his grand and great-grandkids.
He and Viola wintered in Texas where they met many good friends. Dex was always there when you needed him and was a great friend to all.
Dex was preceded in death by his brother, Jack.
Dex is survived by his wife of 65 years, Viola; children, Brenda Peterson, Karen (Clay) Nading, Jeff (Debbie) Liljegren; grandchildren, Megan, Bridget (Jon), Ryan (Katey), Derek, Melissa (Ryan), Laura, and Kyle (Alli); great-grandchildren, Natalie, AJ, Kenzie, Layla, Landen, Trevyn, Macie, Logan, Emma, and Henry; brother, Chuck (Benita); and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Due to the restrictions that Covid-19 has caused, a private family memorial service to be held.
Public Visitation to be held from 12 pm to 1:30 pm on Friday, July 10th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, with a public Military Honors Ceremony following at 2 pm at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, 4777 US-53, Saginaw.
