David Louis Twining, 77, of Rice Lake Minnesota, passed away unexpectantly, but peacefully, on October 26th, 2023, surrounded by his family at St Luke’s Hospital.
David, affectionately known as “Pa” by his family, was born in Duluth Minnesota to Louis & Jane Twining on May 14, 1946. He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1964. After taking some courses at UMD he decided to go into the trades and went into the electrical apprenticeship program through the IBEW Local Union 31 (Now Local 242). He worked as a journeyman electrician until 1982 when he became a master electrician and started Dave Twining Electric Inc.
David enjoyed “snowbirding” to Naples Florida, raising cows & chickens on his hobby farm in Rice Lake, and running his own business as an electrical contractor. But his greatest joy came from his passion for flying. He received his pilot certificate in 1975 and over the years he accumulated over 2500 hours of flight time, earned numerous ratings, and owned multiple aircraft.
David was a 23-year veteran of the Rice Lake Volunteer Fire Department and liked serving his community. He also loved spending time with family, having “coffee time” or “garage logic” with friends, and taking walks or just being outdoors.
David was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Matt & Marion Sushoreba; and his sister & brother-in-law, Jan & Phillip “Bud” Rodberg.
David is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sharon; sons, Bryan & Scott (Tracy) Twining; grandchildren, Kayla (Tyler) Miller and David “D.J.” Twining; great- grandchildren, Carson, Cooper & Conner Miller; sister, Peg (John Prentice) Twining; brother-in-law, Duane (Denise) Sushoreba; numerous nieces & nephews; and many faithful friends.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to St. Lukes Hospital and Hospice for the care given over the 51 days David was there.
Celebration of Life will be from 1:00 – 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 12th at the AAD Shrine, 5152 Miller Trunk Hwy.
Old pilots do not die; they just fly higher,
Blue skies and tailwinds on your journey west Pa.
