David Behning Obituary

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of our dear brother, David Shane Behning, on February 12, 2024. David was 52 years old when he went home to heaven to be with God our Father. He is together again with our parents, Donald and Alma Behning; and brother, Duane Behning. He is also reunited with all of his beloved pets and friends, whom he has missed dearly. David is survived by his fiancé, Tara Oakland; sister, Debra Templer; brother, Donald Behning; sister-in-law, Tammy Behning; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and his very special, beloved pet dog, Dega.

David attended Proctor High School and went on to take classes at Lake Superior College. Some of his jobs include, Chris Jensen Nursing Home, Cirrus Aircraft, and Midwest Patrol as a security guard. David liked to work with computer systems, phones, and fix his cars.

David loved classic country music and acquired the autographs of many of his favorite singers which he proudly displayed. As an avid rock music fan, he attended many concerts with his buddies who called him “Diamond Dave.” Out of his love for professional stock car racing, and special admiration for Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr., “Nascar Dave”  became his well known nickname. As a great sports fan, David loved to root for and cheer on the Minnesota Vikings football team and the Minnesota Twins baseball team. He was looking forward to a Super Bowl win for the Vikings and another World Series championship win for the Minnesota Twins.

David loved to help watch his nieces and nephews and he would often take them on fun fishing excursions. He also loved to barbecue with his family and friends and was looking forward to starting up a garden. An admiration for the outdoors was evident with David as he called himself the “Wildlife Whisperer.” He took pictures of himself feeding his wildlife friends such as a Chipmunk he affectionately called, “Chippy”, whom he could feed by hand. He also named two pheasants, “Fred and Fiona”, “George”, the ground squirrel, “Wheezy”, the Weasel, and “Oscar”, the Owl. Dave loved country living and often took pictures of his many outdoor adventures.

Most of all, David’s favorite pastime was to share the joy of laughter and love with his loved ones. David was a kind man who had a fun loving spirit. His jovial laughter and empathetic nature will be missed by all who knew him. David is now surrounded by the love of God, the most beautiful, magnificent garden, and heavenly music one could ever imagine, as he  awaits for us to reunite with him in heaven.

We will honor David’s life with a Visitation at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 22nd at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, with the Funeral Service to follow at 2:00 PM. A celebration of life will follow the service at The Saginaw Union Station, 6993 US-2, Saginaw, at approximately 3:30 PM. Guests may share a dish or dessert if they wish.

Our family would like to thank everyone for donating to help with funeral expenses and setting up for this celebration of David’s 52 years of life on this earth. His memory will be in our hearts and thoughts forever.

Blessings to all, Thank you, Debra
