Craig Reynold Brouse, 84, of Duluth, died Tuesday, June 20, 2023. He was born in Duluth on February 5, 1939 to Lloyd Sr. Brouse and Angeline Brouse Mercier. He grew up in Central Hillside area and was the youngest of seven children. He was a dedicated Christian, very honest, kindhearted, loving with a gentle soul. He will truly be missed by his family and friends but will find peace knowing he is reunited with his wife after she passed 10 months ago.
In his younger years, Craig loved archery, he made his own arrows, he enjoyed skiing, skating, baseball, and bowling. He graduated from Central High in 1957. He participated in Track and Field where he lettered in Pole Vaulting, and played the trumpet for the band and played in numerous trumpet trio’s during his concerts. After graduation, he furthered his education at Salter Trade School (Lake Superior College) pursuing a career in the electrical trade. He attended UMD and the Air Force University. He served in the Army National Guard for nine years before joining the Air National Guard. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant from the Miliary, serving a total of 29 years. Craig worked for the City of Duluth in the Traffic Engineering Department. He served on The City Parking Commission and The Disability Commission. He was named an Outstanding City Employee and was in the city bowling league for many years.
Craig delivered prescriptions for the Medical Arts Building when he met his future wife, Shirley Grubenla from Cloquet, who worked as the elevator operator. They married on October 12, 1963 and together had three children.
He had a strong Christian faith, reading the Bible every night before bed, he was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Duluth and had served as a deacon. He joined the rest of his family in Heaven, his wife, Shirley; parents, Lloyd Sr and Angeline; sisters, Beverly Andrews, Adele Williams, Roberta Brouse and Patricia Jordan; and brother, Lloyd Brouse.
Craig is survived by his sons, Kevin (Heather) Brouse of Lake Nebagamon and Randy (Cheri) Brouse of Saginaw; daughter, Dawn (Bernie) Olson of Superior; grandchildren, Casey and Cory Kozak, Erika and Lyvia Olson, and Taylin and Zander Brouse; step-granddaughter, Stephanie (Ben) Patton of Hawaii; great-grandchild, Abel Kozak; step-great-grandchild; Joseph Patton; sister, Dorotha Lindholm; along with numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Please join the family on June 30th, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church 300 E. Second Street, Duluth. Visitation to be held at 11:00 AM with Funeral Service at Noon. Committal and Military Honors to follow at 2:30 PM at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery in Hermantown. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to First Presbyterian Church.
