Catherine Eileen (“Katy”) Gorghuber, age 62 of Duluth, MN, was called home to be with her
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 28, 2022, while at Solvay Hospice House. She was
born in Duluth on June 27, 1959, and graduated from East High School in 1977 and from UMD
(summa cum laude) in 1981. She married Mark S. Gorghuber on August 8, 1981, and they
lived in Mountain Iron, Fargo, St. Cloud, and North Mankato before moving back to Duluth in
1994. Katy held several part-time jobs over the years, utilizing her administrative and financial
skills. But her greatest delight and primary vocation was that of homemaker, focusing her
talents and time on caring for her family. She was an active volunteer in church and in her
children’s schools. She especially loved teaching the Bible to children in Sunday School, VBS,
and AWANA; in facilitating prayer ministries; and in supporting and encouraging Christian
missionaries around the world. She enjoyed meeting people from other cultures and was
blessed with several special international friendships. Over the past ten years, she cherished
her role as “Nana” to her six beloved grandchildren. She and Mark enjoyed hiking in the woods,
bike rides, walks together with their dogs, lake cabin vacations, and special trips to Hawaii,
Washington DC, Colorado, Branson, Mexico, and Norway. Katy desired for all to know that:
“ if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him
from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
Katy was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. John J. Dwyer and Dorothy A. Dwyer Ramaley;
by her parents-in-law, Jerome and Theresa Gorghuber; by niece, Allison Dwyer; and by step-
father, Harry D. Ramaley.
Katy is survived by her husband, Mark; children, Steven (Rebecca) Gorghuber, Jill Gorghuber;
grandchildren Charlotte, Anna, Hattie, Adeline, Eliza, John; siblings Paul (Nancy) Dwyer, John
Dwyer, Brian (Ann) Dwyer, Martha (Dan Kuberra) Dwyer; siblings-in-law, Bruce (Carol)
Gorghuber, Carol (Walter) Hart, Dennis Gorghuber, Jean (Dave) Hummel, Julie (Jeff) Randel,
