Bruce Stromberg Obituary

Bruce's life ended in the same manner in which he lived it, by packing as much activity into one day as possible. He spent his last day working outside on the property he loved, then running his usual six miles and pausing along the way to visit with neighbors. He topped it off by spending time with his beloved wife to celebrate her imminent retirement.

Bruce Alan Stromberg, 64, of Culver, MN, passed away on April 23, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, MN. Bruce was born in the very same hospital to Albert and Helen (Kirby) Stromberg on August 17, 1955. He attended Morgan Park High School and graduated in 1973. He went on to earn certificates in Small Engine Repair, Machine Operation, and his Commercial Driver's License.

On August 17, 1996, Bruce celebrated his 41st birthday, ran a half marathon in the morning, and in the afternoon, he married the love of his life, Wendy (Schelin) Turcotte. That fall, they purchased the Schelin family homestead, overlooking Schelin Lake in New Independence Township, where he enjoyed living the rest of his days.

Bruce worked as a truck driver for 30 years, most recently at KGM Contractors Inc., and was proud to be a member of the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed reading his Bible, running, photography, telling goofy jokes, spoiling his pets, and spending quality time with his family. He was an involved member of the Duluth Bible Church and shared his love of God with everyone he met.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Carl Anderson; and sister, Marcia Akrivos.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 23 years, Wendy; daughter, Renee (John) Graves of Duluth; son, William (Sara) Turcotte III of Superior, WI; grandchildren, Emma, Adrianna, Connor, Clare, Simon, Sawyer, and Andrew; sister, Diane (Denny) Line, Sr; brother, David (Cyndy) Stromberg; nieces and nephews, Stamos Akrivos, Christy Akrivos, Denny (Rhonada) Line, Jr, Deanne Shykes, Daniel (Heather) Line, Dawn (Andy) Johnson, Heidi Stromberg, Paul (Annelyse) Stromberg, and "niece" JoAnn Thomas. Also, several grand nieces and nephews.

Our family sends a special "thank you" to the members of the Alborn Volunteer Fire Department, the Meadowlands and Mayo ambulance services, and the medical staff at St. Luke's hospital for their relentless efforts to bring Bruce back to us and their kind, compassionate care for our family, especially during this time of COVID-19. Despite their heroic efforts, our Lord had a different plan for Bruce that evening and please know that we are at peace.
