Obituary

William George Maas, 84, peacefully ended life's journey February 3, 2013 surrounded by all he loved in his son's home with his boy Michael at his side. Born November 10, 1928 in Duluth, MN to Rocky and Winifred Maas, the youngest of three children.  At 14 years old Bill spent summer in Wrenshall working on a farm, later he was a bus-boy at the Hotel Duluth, also working in a railroad section crew all during his teen years and attending Central High School.  While in high school Bill joined the United States Air Force serving 1947-1951 becoming a Staff Sergeant performing aircraft mechanics based in Anchorage, Alaska, and Detroit, Michigan. After military service Bill returned to Duluth began a family and employment with Minnesota Power.  Bill worked his way up at Minnesota Power from mechanic to Equipment Buyer until his 1989 retirement after 37 years there. Bill never actually retired; he enjoyed new challenges from repairing small engines, some woodworking to fabrication projects.  He loved sharing his problem solving knowledge, watching wildlife, fishing, time spent with family and friends.  He especially enjoyed his puppy buddies: Red, Ricky, Harley and Thor. Of all the things we will miss the most are his sense of humor, wisdom, and telling his life experiences. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert (Bob) Maas, and 25 year partner Mitsue Magnuson. Survivied by sons; Michael (Wendy Stovern), Scott (Claudia).  Grandchildren; Amanda Stovern (Jeff Mitchell), Jessica (Daniel) DeVries, Great-Grandchildren; Gabriel Mitchell, Logan DeVries.  Sister Betty Rutoski, many nieces and nephews.  Extended family; Carla, Jeremy, Richard Magnuson and their families. Visitation will be held on Friday February 15, 2013 from 1PM until the 2PM Memorial Service in Sunrise Funeral Home.   Internment in Sunrise Memorial Park with military honors will be at a later date privately for family.  Arrangements by Sunrise Funeral Home.  www.sunrisefuneralhomeandcemetery.com
