Wayne and Shari spent 14 years wintering in Arizona enjoying many friends and activities. He enjoyed trips to Village Inn with his coffee friends (free pie!) and the early morning coffee fellowship on Roy's patio along with his best friend Ed France. He enjoyed his noon coffee group known as the Proctor Militia at the Cozy Corner and the Pizza Pub. He spent many summers at his cabin on Island Lake in Moose Lake. Wayne loved his many beloved labs and will be missed by his bedside dog Joey.
Wayne was a proud Union member of the Carpenters local 361. He spent his entire career as a Master Carpenter working on his own and then for many local contractors where the companies would request him specifically to do the finishing carpentry. Wayne was very generous with his time and talent and was always ready to help anyone in need. He built many houses including his own home on the Stark Road in Proctor. Wayne started out while in high school working for Tom Wards gas station, after high school he became a carpenter apprentice for Larry Simonson and built many homes and establishments in the Duluth/Hermantown area. Some of his building achievements included: A Silver Bay bridge (with his son Lance), Duluth Clinic remodel, Fitgers, Central and Denfeld high schools, UMD. Lift bridge control house, and the Condos on Barkers Island. He also worked on several projects for Ray Envall Construction such as the condos on Boy Scout Landing. Before his retirement in 1999, he was employed by Johnson Wilson and Johnson Bros. He built many homes for the Grussendorf families.
Most importantly was his love for his family! He was a devoted husband to Shari and an amazing father to his children, Lance, Sheryl and Eric. Wayne loved visits with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed by all.
The family want to say a special thank you to the staff at Inter-Faith Care Center for their kind, loving, caring, skilled, compassionate care Wayne received while living there; and thank you to St. Croix Hospice guiding them through the final steps of Wayne's journey.
