Virginia Mary DeSanto of West Duluth passed away at 4 a.m., August 26, 2013, at St. Eligius in West Duluth where she had lived for the past 12 years. Virginia was born in West Duluth on Raleigh Street on August 1, 1924, to Anthony and Theresa DeSanto. She was one of the first handicapped students to graduate from Denfeld High School in 1947 and established and managed her successful neighborhood stationery and greeting card business for more than 40 years. In the late 1960s, she moved to north Minneapolis to live with her sister Helen until Helen's death in 1999, when she returned to Duluth. Virginia loved to read, watch movies, tell family stories, shop, and help others. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Theresa DeSanto; three sisters, Helen Swanson, Dorothy Tomar, and Alvina DeSanto; and a brother Russell DeSanto. She is survived by her sister Marlene Foster, Vista, California, and Dr. R. John DeSanto, Manhattan, Kansas, along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Virginia will be interned in Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery in the DeSanto family plot after a celebration of life at St. Eligius at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 30.
