Vernon "Vern" Maetzold, 88, of Minneapolis passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023 in Hennepin Medical Center, Minneapolis. He was born on September 30, 1935 to Howard and Genevieve Maetzold in Grand Forks, ND.

Vern grew up in Belgrade, MN and was educated at Oberlin Conservatory, U of MN, Bemidji and Wayne State. He cared for others during his 30 years as a Social Worker focusing on Foster Care. He served in the National Guard and utilized his musical talents in the Army band. He loved people, playing bridge, attending the Schubert Club, Chopin Society and performing as a classical pianist for Thursday Musical and neighbors at Walker/Methodist Place.

He was preceded in death by parents, Howard and Genevieve Maetzold.

Vern is survived by his three sons, Mark (Diana) Maetzold of St. Cloud, Hugh (Patricia) Maetzold of White Bear Lake, and Paul (Connie) Maetzold of Lino Lakes; grandchildren Cole (Megan) Maetzold, Claire (Hudson) Gray, Jonathan (Antonia) Maetzold, Andy, Emily, Bethany and Lily Maetzold and a great-grandson Maverick Maetzold.
