Velma Violet Hicks, 93, of Hermantown, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living. Velma was born in Duluth on September 11, 1926 to Nick and Olga Virta. She graduated in 1944 from Lakewood School and on August 1, 1947 married George Hicks. Velma worked for many years at Target and was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and socializing with her friends. Her family meant the world to her and she enjoyed time spent with all of them at home and the cabin. Velma was preceded in death by her husband, George; and sisters, Irma Lundorff and Irene Hirvola. Velma is survived by her children, Claudia (Dennis) Lunke of Munger, Thomas (Lori) Hicks of Saginaw, Robert (Rose Nelson) Hicks of Duluth, and James (Susan) Hicks of Hermantown; grandchildren, Scott (Kara) Lunke, Julie (Bard) Sathers, Jessica (JD) Halley, Jason (Lynelle) Hicks, David (Kassandra) Hicks, Stephen (Brittany) Hicks, Nichole (Rick) Russell, Andrea (Aaron) Leslie, Derek (Rachel) Hicks, and Joseph (MacKenzie) Hicks; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Braxton, Braelyn, Natalie, Clara, Vivian, J.J., Oliver, Lane, Nolan, Avery, Wyatt, Lilith, Carson, and Callahan; sister, Marian Fox of Silver Bay; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Edgewood Vista and Caring Edge Hospice for the excellent and loving care Velma received. VISITATION: 10 am on Monday, September 30th at Grace Lutheran Church, 5454 Miller Trunk Hwy, with funeral following at 11 am. Entombment at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery.
