Troy was born in Duluth to Larry and Nelly Volkenant at St. Luke's Hospital on April 13, 1979 and passed away on April 19, 2020. Troy attended Hermantown High School and was home schooled. He had a variety of interests and hobbies: he loved to fish, hunt, and trap and was very talented at wood burning nature scenes. He enjoyed helping raise domestic farm animals and doing his chores. Troy and his siblings also raised rabbits, hamsters, kittens, and tropical fish. Troy's mother taught him and his siblings to do crafts, cook, bake, make maple syrup, jellies, and to can fruit, vegetables, and pickles. Troy was preceded in death by his mother, Nelly; brother and best friend, Darin; grandparents, Kenneth & Lulu Steffen of Duluth, MN and Anthony & Evelen Volkenant of Hector, MN; and uncle, David Volkenant of Hutchinson, MN. Troy is survived by his father, Larry Volkenant; brothers, Lance and Brent; sisters, Cindy (Jeff) Merrill and Kristy Meidl; step-mother, Kim; step-sisters, Jackie Wells and Marsha Fobbester; and numerous nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, and cousins. Private family graveside to be held at a later date.
