IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Toik Matthew
Hallberg
January 11, 1970 – February 24, 2026
Toik Matthew Hallberg, 56, of Duluth, passed away on February 24, 2026, surrounded by care and compassion at Essentia Health Hospice.
Born on January 11, 1970, in Virginia, Minnesota, Toik was raised in Cherry on the Iron Range, where his love for the outdoors and for machinery first took root. His childhood was filled with adventure - snowmobiling along the St. Louis River, fishing the waters of Lake Vermilion, and deer hunting alongside his grandfather, father, and brother. Those early years shaped the loyal, and spirited man he would become.
Toik began his career with Kirscher Transport Trucking before relocating to Duluth, where he became a proud member of Operating Engineers Local 49 and worked for Lakehead Constructors as a Crane Operator. Yet it was his passion for engines and craftsmanship that truly defined him.
In time, Toik transformed that passion into purpose, opening a motorcycle shop in Proctor where he built custom choppers that reflected both his technical skill and artistic vision. In 2000, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream on a larger stage, launching Toik’s Choppers. His creations were more than machines - they were expressions of creativity, precision, and heart.
Outside of building motorcycles, Toik loved anything with a motor - especially if it was a Ford. Mustangs and Broncos held a special place in his heart. He was also a devoted music enthusiast and a gifted artist, able to bring ideas to life through drawing with striking detail and imagination. Whether working with metal, pencil, or engine parts, Toik possessed a rare ability to create something meaningful from raw materials.
Above all, Toik will be remembered for his generous spirit. He had a big heart and would do anything for anyone in need. His kindness, loyalty, and unmistakable presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Though his life was cut far too short, his impact will endure in the memories he created and the lives he touched.
Toik was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Hallberg.
Toik is survived by his loving mother, Arlene Hallberg; sisters, Coralee (Andy) Mayry and Shawna Hallberg; brother, Todd Hallberg; six nieces; one great-niece; and two great-nephews. His family and friends will carry his memory forward with love.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
