Tillie (May) Mattson, 89 of Oak St. Proctor, passed away Friday May 31, 2013 in St. Luke's Hospital. She was born on August 3rd, 1923 to William and Stella May in Adolph, MN. Tillie graduated from Hibbing High School before the family moved to Proctor. She married Wilfred "Willie" Mattson on May 31, 1946. Tillie was a stay at home mom until she became a cashier at Target Grocery Store. Tillie was very involved in the DFL in the 1960's, and the Proctor PTA. She was also involved in Scouting and was presented the Silver Scouter Award for her dedication and hard work. Tillie was very fortunate to have lived independently in the house her and her husband built in Proctor until four days before she was taken from us. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and after retirement she volunteered for many years in the St. Luke's Hospital gift shop. Tillie was preceded in death by her husband Wilfred, parents, and brothers Jess and Harry May. Tillie is survived by her son Randy (Carleen) of Duluth, grandson Brian (Lora) of Duluth, granddaughter Melanie (Travis) Maniekee of Cloquet, great-grandchildren Austin Horn, Mason, Madison, and Mathieu Mattson, sisters Caroline Rukavina of Duluth, Virginia (Wallace) Johnson of Hermantown, and many other nieces and nephews.
