Theola Rita Laakso, 89, of Hermantown, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018, in Edgewood Vista. Theola was born Feb. 25, 1929, in Breckenridge, MN to John and Zilda Tjaden. She grew up in West Duluth and attended St. Jeans School. In 1947, she married Elmer and together they raised five children. Home was a hobby farm in Saginaw for many years. Life brought them a period of family owned businesses including sod and landscaping owning the Little Grand Frostop and the Saginaw Store. Later in life she decided that her niche in life was taking care of people and worked at Viewcrest for about 20 years. After Elmer's death in 1997, she did some travelling, social clubs, and quilting at St. Raphael's Church. Theola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; and her only sister, Mercedes. Theola is survived by her five children, Rodney (Bobbie Clark), Wayne (Sharon Hughes), Dean, Kim (John) Bahr, and Sean (Lanie); 7 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Edgewood Vista for the wonderful care she got at the home at the "lodge". VISITATION: 10am Wednesday, March 28th at St. Raphael's Church, 5779 Seville Rd, with a funeral service to follow at 11am.
