Obituary

Ruth Malloy, 95, of Morgan Park was called by the Lord on March 15, 2013 in the Benedictine Health Center in Duluth. Ruth was born June 5, 1917 in Bernie, MO to John and Effie Murdock.  She moved with her family to Duluth in 1925 where she attended St. James Catholic School.  She met and married the love of her life, John Malloy in 1937.  They lived happily together in Morgan Park all the 62 years of their marriage and raised three children. Ruth was the head cook at Millers Cafeteria for many years and was a chef at The Captains Table restraint, both in Duluth.  She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church and the Morgan Park Senior Center, where she enjoyed many afternoons' playing cards with friends and volunteering.  Ruth had a beautiful alto voice and sang all of her life, most recently as a member of the Blue and Gold Choir.  She loved to cook and kept busy in her later years entertaining and preparing tasty meals for friends and family.  She especially enjoyed gatherings at the Malloy family cabin in Sawyer, MN. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband John, her mother Effie Holmen, daughter Joan Markos, granddaughter Kimberly Markos, brothers Elmer Murdock, and James and Charles Burke, her special sister-in-law Jackie Burke, and her best friend Mickey Hampton. Ruth is survived by her children Donald (Kathy) Malloy of Vadnais Heights, MN, and Marcia (Robert) Pratt of Washburn, WI, grandchildren Cindy Depinet, Tom Markos, Christine Markos, Patrick Malloy, Donald Malloy Jr., Kenneth Malloy, Lisa Malloy, Teresa Page, Daniel Page, and Melissa Pratt, great-grandchildren Brittnay Malloy, Jessica Malloy, Eric Malloy, Dayne Malloy, and Jaxson Page, and many special nieces and nephews in Ohio. We know that heaven has a choir ant that Ruth is singing in it.  We hope that there is a kitchen there as well where Ruth can cook and entertain her family and friends who are with her now.  Ruth's family wants to thank the wonderful staff at the Benedictine Health Center for the excellent care and great compassion she received during her time there. Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 19 from 5PM to 7PM with 6:30Pm Wake Prayers in Sunrise Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 10AM until the 11AM Funeral Mass in St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.  Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery.  Arrangements by Sunrise Funeral Home.   To sign the guest book and offer an online tribute see www.sunrisefuneralhomeandcemetery.com.
