Roy W. Mahlberg, Sr. Roy W. Mahlberg, Sr., 88, peacefully passed on Monday, October 26, 2015 surrounded by his family. Roy was born on January 21, 1927 in Wright, Minnesota to Finnish immigrants, Waldemar and Josephine Mahlberg and was the youngest of nine children. At the age of 18 he moved to Duluth and worked various jobs until he found a job with the City of Duluth as an accountant. He worked for the City of Duluth until his retirement in 1989. In 1967 he married his loving wife Mary and had one child, Roy Jr. Roy was loved by all who met him and was rarely seen without a smile on his face. He enjoyed solving word and number puzzles, working with computers and researching the family tree. During his retirement he authored a short book about the history of Finnish people in Carlton County. He also spent much time in his backyard garden and going for long walks in the area. Roy is predeceased by his parents and by his siblings Anna, Aili, Aini, Arne, Wilhelm, Arthur, and Elvi. Roy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary, sister, Sylvia Carrasco of Frederick, Maryland, son, Roy(Lois) Mahlberg, Jr. of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, two grandsons, Devin Mahlberg and Aidan Mahlberg, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He will be remembered for his loving devotion to his family and his great sense of humor. Private services will be held.
