IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ronald
Crowl
October 14, 1949 – February 8, 2025
Sean Padraig Ronald Chandler Sheley Crowl known to simply as Ron was born 1949 in Bushnell, Illinois. Ron was preceded in death by his parents Kemper and Ruth, and his older sister Marilyn as well as his husband Jeffery who was the love of his life. Ron grew up in Illinois in a family that was very affluent. He was proud of his father's banking and farming businesses. Ron would describe his family's home to friends as an estate that had "help" who were like family and who helped raise him and his sister.
Ron had and infectious personality and was someone who you could not easily forget. He could easily bring a large group of people together and he loved being the center of attention with his witty stories and captivating life's experiences. He made friends easily and was not shy about sharing his views and opinions. Not everyone understood or agreed with Ron and he was just fine with that, but at the end of the day he would still enjoy their company while sharing a gin and tonic or a "Dirty Ron".
Ron died peacefully with friends present on February 8, 2025 at Essentia medical center in Duluth. He had a doctorate in music specifically the organ, most recently playing at First Presbyterian Church in Duluth. He was trained at a school in London, England and played at Westminster Abbey, for Queen Elizabeth II. He also worked at Wicks Organ Company in Highland Illinois, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mound, MN as well as other positions in Kentucky, Chicago and Britain. He occasionally did translation work of Egyptian hieroglyphics and it is believed he has some published works. At one time he owned a restaurant in Chicago as well as a Frank Lloyd Wright home in Oak Park, Illinois. Ron was a beloved fixture at The Lexington on Grand Avenue in St. Paul, MN, Carmody's and the now closed Blackwater in Duluth. He is survived by many, many friends who are holding an Irish wake at his request at Carmody's at 2 pm Saturday February 15, 2025. Intermittent arrangements to be forthcoming.
