Obituary

Roger Alyn Schober, 90, passed away peacefully at St Luke's Hospital in Duluth, MN on October 15, 2022, surrounded by his three children.

Roger "Buzz" was born in Virginia, MN on November 14, 1931, to Frank and Vina Schober. The family moved to a home on Jefferson Street in Duluth when Roger was a young boy. He delivered papers for many years and that fueled his love of history (reading the war updates under the streetlights) and entrepreneurship. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1949 and then went on to earn his Bachelor of Accounting Degree at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Roger proudly served in the 179th Fighter Squadron Minnesota National Guard in the early 1950's when the unit was being formed and achieving combat ready status. He married his beautiful childhood friend, Nancy Johnson (daughter of Fred 0. and Leontine Johnson and sister to Mary Ellen Westberg) in 1952 and they shared 57 happy years of marriage until her death in 2010. They went on to have three children who were the focal point of their lives: Mark, Beth and Sue.

Roger was a self-employed CPA for many years, and also founded Asphalt of Duluth and co-founded Schober-McDonald-Amys Construction. He owned and operated the Silver Hammer Bar in downtown Duluth back in the day as well as multiple rental properties over the years, and a variety of other endeavors that kept him busy. He loved traveling with Nancy as well as his family. Spending time at their cabin on Fish Lake and their Florida home were also favorite pastimes of theirs. Roger was a passionate reader, especially of military history and current events.

Roger was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and siblings, Frank Schober, Florence Annoni and Virginia Schmitz.

Roger is survived by his son, Mark (Kathy); daughters, Beth (Pat) Donahue and Sue (Pat) Cutshall; grandchildren, Tim, Meghan, Chris, Molly, Mike, Erin, John and Matthew; as well as great-grandchildren, Keeley, Kieran, Grant, Connor, Ada and Leo.

Private family services will be held.
