Robert Joseph Childs, 88, of Duluth, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017, at Viewcrest Health Center. Bob was born June 22, 1929, to Joseph & Esther Childs. Bob was a 1947 graduate of Duluth Central. He earned a teaching degree from UMD before serving in the U.S. Army. He taught school for 32 years, from 1955 to 1987, majority of the years at Piedmont Elementary. In 1966, he was awarded Minnesota Teacher of the Year. He also enjoyed fishing and camping. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. Bob is survived by many cousins, friends, and former students. The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Viewcrest Health Center for the care given to Bob. VISITATION: 10am Saturday, September 16th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown, with a memorial service to follow at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to First Presbyterian Church of Duluth.
