Obituary

Robert John Bock, 75, of Duluth, Minnesota, died and joyfully went home to Heaven on Friday, October 11th, 2013, after a brief battle with complications due to cancer -- a sinner saved by God's grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone.   Several years ago, Bob came to understand and believe the truth of John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."  So instead of trusting a church, religious ritual, or his many good works to get him to Heaven, he believed that Jesus Christ did enough to save him when He died for his sins and rose again to give him eternal life as a gift.  Bob has now experienced the reality of 2 Corinthians 5:8 where every believer in Christ is promised by God that "absent from the body" results in being "present with the Lord." He died without any fear of where he would spend eternity for the Bible clearly states that, "These things have I written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may KNOW that you have eternal life." Bob was born in Duluth, Minnesota on July 12, 1938.  He graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1956 where he played basketball and ran cross-country.  He then joined the United States Army where he served in Korea. Bob joined the Duluth Fire Department in 1963 where he proudly served as a fire fighter, and was promoted to fire equipment operator until his retirement in 1979. He also loved golfing, fishing, traveling and playing with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his father, William E. Bock, mother Marie I. (Makitalo) Ranta, brothers Benny, Cal and Mickey and sister Mary Ann Liston. He is survived by a son William (Sandy) Bock of Duluth and two daughters Susan (Daniel) Farmer of Foxboro, Wisconsin and Lori (Lowell) Lyons of Duluth. He is also survived by sisters Helen Nelson and Margie Youngberg, brothers Tom (Claire), Jim, Chris and John, sister-in-law Joann Bock, seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Essentia's Oncology department for their wonderful support. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 20th at The Duluth Bible Church, 201 W. St. Andrews St. in Duluth at 4 pm with funeral services following at 5 pm. Committal service will be held at Calvary Cemetery on Monday, October 21st, at 10:00 am.  Military Honors will be Accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.  Arrangements by Sunrise Funeral Home.  To leave an online condolence see: www.sunrisefuneralhomeandcemetery.com.
