Robert "Pete" Axel Peterson, 88, of Duluth, MN passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Essentia St. Mary's Hospital.
Robert was born in Duluth to Axel Peterson and Albertina Johnson on June 1, 1931. He went to high school at Hermantown High and graduated in 1949. He went on to join the Army in 1952 and was discharged in 1954. Robert worked at Bodean Furniture for 21 years. He then put in 17 years at the DM & IR Railroad Co. He retired in 1990.
Early in Robert's life, he enjoyed playing on Hermantown High's first hockey team. He also enjoyed ski jumping, motorcycles, snowmobiles, car racing, and bowling. Later, he went on to enjoy working on cars. He was known as a "grease monkey" by many of his friends.
Robert was a member of the Duluth Gospel Tabernacle, the VFW, and later was active with the Hermantown Historical Society.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, June (Virgil) Peterson Miller.
Robert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edith; sons, Thomas and Scott; granddaughter, Coyeska Reilly; and many other family members.
The family wishes to extend gratitude to Duluth Gospel Tabernacle, Rolf Fure, Sunrise Funeral Home, Larissa Paulson, Louie Lincoln, Joan Thompson, and the ladies of the church.
VISITATION: 11:00 am on Saturday, July 27th at the Duluth Gospel Tabernacle, 1515 W. Superior St., with funeral service to follow at 12:00 pm. Interment at Sunrise Memorial Park.
