Richard "Rick" Andrew Szamatula, 67, of Duluth, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 16, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Richard was born in Duluth, MN to Paul and Violet Szamatula on May 16, 1957. Richard graduated from Hermantown High School. On August 9, 1986, Richard married Sharon Bakke and together they had one daughter, Jamie. In 2019, he retired from Alliance Courier, where he worked for several years. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, especially trips in the spring to Myrtle Beach, SC. Richard enjoyed deer hunting with his daughter and hunting buddies.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Richard is survived by his wife, Sharon Szamatula; daughter, Jamie Szamatula of Duluth; brother, Alfred Szamatula of Duluth; sister, Paulie (Mark) Laughlin; and several cousins and friends.

His family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful nurses at St. Luke's Hospice.

Visitation to be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, June 24th at Salem Lutheran Church, 4715 Hermantown Rd, with Memorial Service at Noon and reception to follow. Interment at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Voyageurs Lutheran Ministry Camp Hiawatha.
