Raymond "Mert" Walter Bjorkquist, 77, of Hermantown, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018, in Edgewood Vista Assisted Living. Raymond was born in Grand Rapids, MN, to Waino and Julia Bjorkquist. Raymond graduated high school in 1958 from Hill City High School, and enlisted in the Army shortly after graduation. He served for 9 years, earning an honorable discharge and many medals, including: National Defense Service, Vietnam Campaign, Vietnam Service, and Good Conduct. He worked for Northwestern Bell, retiring 30 years later in 1998. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, North American Hunting Club, American Legion, and volunteered with the Cotton Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and play cribbage, among many other things. Raymond was a loving father, and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. Raymond was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles and James. Raymond is survived by his daughter, Tamra (Greg) Flood; grandchildren, Sarah (Jesus) Negron and Justin Flood; great-grandchildren, Christian and Savannah Negron; brother, Leslie (Joann); sister, Joyce Neary; and many nieces and nephews. VISITATION: 5pm to 7pm Friday, April 20th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown, continuing at 1pm on Saturday, April 21st with funeral service to follow at 2pm.
