Raymond Joseph Reno, 87, passed away August 18, 2013 at Chris Jensen Rehab Center with his family at his side.  Ray was born January 21, 1926 to Joseph and Ethel (Snyder) Reno.  Ray went to Washington Elementary School which he proudly told his children that "he had to walk to school thru six feet of snow uphill both ways".  He left Hermantown High School in his junior year to join the Navy during WWII.  He received his GED after the war was over.  While at Farragut Idaho Naval Training Base he met Harlan Hansen, also from Duluth, who showed him a picture of his sister back in Duluth.  Ray said I will have to look her up.  Ray and Harriet celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary on June 28, 2013. Ray worked at the Coolerator, Hermantown Locker Plant, and retired from National Iron in 1985 when the plant closed. Ray enjoyed music, he was never far from his guitar, playing around the campfire, teaching his grandchildren," You are my Sunshine" and "Oh Where is my Kitty Song".  Ray and Harriet had thirty years with the Crafty Travelers driving around the country, from Alaska to Florida, Mexico to Nova Scotia, Canada.  Ray was a welder by trade and made many wrought iron decorations, wall hangings, lamps, stair railings, any ideas he came up with or if he saw a picture, he'd have eight made before he was done, one for each child and one for home. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert and a grandson Jason. Ray is survived by his wife Harriet, children Karen (Gordon) Goerts, Dale (Linda) Reno, Bonnie (Terry) Goerts, Jerry, and Rick (Cyndy) all of Hermantown, Cindie (Donald) Goerts of Rice Lake Township, and Karla (Mark) Haugen of Proctor, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren with one on the way in September, two-great-great-grandchildren, sisters Doris Anderson of Duluth, Donna Reno of Brookston, brother Dwaine Reno of Arkansas, many friends, and relatives.  The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at St. Luke's and Chris Jensen for their compassionate care.
