Obituary

Raymond "Ray" David Loisel, 85, of Duluth, passed away on Jan. 19, 2020. Ray was born on Nov. 1, 1934 in Knife Falls, MN now known as Cloquet, MN to George and Mary Rose (Melina) Loisel. Raymond married Jeanette Snyder on Jun. 8, 1957. They had a fairy tale marriage for over 62 years that everyone wishes for. Family was everything for both of them. He was the ultimate provider, from the very beginning he would work multiple jobs to ensure his family had everything they needed. When his children were young he took on a part time job with them putting up snow fence. Even though he did almost all the work he never took a dime, it all went to his kids. He could always be counted on to provide a jovial joke or entertaining story and when needed thoughtful acknowledgment or sound advice during a tough situation. Always putting others before himself right up to the very end, he longed for the day he could be with his loving wife once again, but he wanted to be here for the rest of his family as well. Ray loved to sing to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one of his favorites was "Froggie Went A Courtin" as he bounced the kids on his knee. We all have fond memories of his love of country music, especially the Banjo, an all-time favorite was Dueling Banjos. Another pastime for him was watching a good television program, from Football to Price Is Right but he absolutely loved watching romance dramas. He also enjoyed the outdoors either fiddling around the garage, yard, gardening or fishing. Not only did he provide and protect his family. He served our country honorably in the Air Force for over 22 years, to include both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He also protected the community by operating Heavy Equipment for St Louis County, keeping our roads safe especially during the winter months where he put in many overtime hours to include 72-hour stretches to remove snow. Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanette Loisel; parents; and 10 siblings. Ray is survived by his children, Cheryl (Mark) Klejeski, Kristine Loisel, David (Amie) Loisel, and Brian Loisel; grandchildren, Melinda, Michael, Kayla, Steven, Cynthia, Jessica, Stefani and Jasmine; great-grandchildren, Bristol, Vincent, Gabriel, Bella, Kayden, Noah and Aiden; sisters-in-law, Darleen Bubacz and Sharon Green; and brother-in-law, Raymond Snyder.
