Peter James Peterson, an Irish storyteller, left us for new adventures on April 18, 2015. Peter was born July 2, 1948, to Edward W. and Audrey L. (Buckley) Peterson in Duluth, MN, and died at the Solvay Hospice House. Peter graduated from Duluth East High School and attended UMD. He worked for many years at St. James Children's Home, Woodland Hills, and Northwood Children's Services, helping youth with significant challenges and behaviors. His sense of fairness, innate understanding of human behavior, and his superior communication skills had a positive impact on many. Peter spent a number of years writing, filming, and producing videos. He was a gifted public speaker and natural storyteller. We will all miss being entertained by his stories. Peter's life revolved around his love for the lakes and trees of northern Minnesota, from his canoeing around Lake Superior to scuba diving with his good friend Steve Williams, to spending time at the Essling's cabin on Lake Namakan, to making maple syrup and hunting on his land (the tree farm), to helping Dr. Juice capture action video of his products. To Peter, friendship meant being there whenever a friend needed him. Peter's friends appreciated his wealth of knowledge and always learned something with every conversation. He is survived by his sister, Nora (Len) Kubazewski, nephew Peter Richard Olson, great nephews Anthony and Riley James Olson, and his treasured friends, Paul, Robbie, Brian, Adam and David Essling. The family expresses their grateful appreciation to the Solvay Hospice House staff for the wonderful care they provided to Peter. He especially appreciated the efforts of Anna and Dave to keep his appetite at peak performance, which they managed wonderfully.
