Pearl Leigh Fuller passed away suddenly on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012. Wife, mother, volunteer, performer and leader, she was born Thelma Pearl Leigh on May 19, 1922, the only child of Theresa and Charles Edgar Leigh in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada. She was brought up in Claremont, N.H., graduated from Stevens High School, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology at Colby Junior College in New London, N.H. Pearl then worked as a medical technologist in Hanover, N.H., where she became very active in the Dartmouth Players, appearing in 10 plays. While at Dartmouth she met and married Josiah Fuller, a medical intern. Together they had seven children, four boys and three girls. In 1948 Pearl and Joe moved to Rochester, Minn., for his medical residency at the Mayo Clinic. Pearl worked as a medical technologist at St. Mary's Hospital. She was also a founding member of the Rochester Civic Theater and worked on four plays there. They came to Duluth in 1953 where Joe was invited to join the Duluth Clinic. In addition to full-time mothering of six children, she served with the PTA (President), League of Women Voters, Medical Auxiliary (State President), Duluth Playhouse, Pilgrim Congregational Church, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter BY (President), civic boards, and as docent for Glensheen Mansion. After Pearl and Joe divorced in 1986, Pearl began acting professionally in commercials, industrial films, videos, voice-overs, radio ads, plays, and a movie. She also became a charter member of the University for Seniors at UMD. She loved to travel, visiting China, New Zealand, Australia, Costa Rica, Hawaii, Canada, England, Europe, Majorca and throughout the USA. In her last years, she resided at Mount Royal Pines senior residence in Duluth. She never lost her passion for performing and often regaled residents with stand-up routines of jokes she had amassed. The pride and joy of her life was her family. She tirelessly promoted her children and grandchildren, carted them to every activity and faithfully attended every performance she could. More than anything, she loved family reunions. The huge family gathering for her 90th birthday was one of the happiest days of her life. Pearl was preceded in death by her son, Josiah II; her parents and her husband. She is survived by her children, Nathaniel (Cathleen) Fuller, George (Jean) Fuller, James (Deidre Young) Fuller, Jane (George) Killough, Susan (David) Wright, and Patricia (Loren) Nelson; Grandchildren: Damen (Jennifer White) Fuller, Amanda Fuller, Susan Fuller, Allie (Georg) Rempfer, Alex (Kaitlyn Fitzpatrick) Fuller-Young, Zoe Fuller-Young, Katie( Ben) Borchert, Sarah Killough, Tristan and Eric Wright, Jim and Ben Eischen, Kayleigh Nelson; step-grandson, Alex (Sarah) Neuse and great-grandchildren Samantha and Kyra Fuller. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, in Pilgrim Congregational Church with visitation held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
