Obituary

Paul was a strong, intelligent, quiet man who loved his family with his whole heart in ‘his’ way.

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Paul Curtis Parent, 81, of Duluth, MN on April 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 2, 1945, in the beautiful city of Duluth, Minnesota, Paul was the beloved son of Frank and Genevieve (Beaumont) Parent.

Paul spent his formative years in Duluth, where he graduated from Proctor High School in 1963. Shortly after, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career in the steel industry, dedicating himself to his work from 1963 until his retirement in 2018. His commitment to his profession was only rivaled by his dedication to his family, whom he cherished above all else.

On August 20, 1965, Paul married the love of his life, Susan Engstrom, in a ceremony held in their hometown of Duluth. Together, they crafted a remarkable life filled with love and happiness, raising four children in a home that was always open to friends, family, and laughter. Paul and Susan celebrated 61 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and partnership.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Genevieve; brother, Phil Parent; and his dear daughter, Melissa (Parent) Mickiewicz.

His legacy of love and kindness lives on through his surviving family: his devoted wife, Susan; and children, Michael (Loretta) Parent, Darren Parent, and Denise (Charles) Chamberlain. He was a proud and loving grandfather to seven grandchildren: Justin Parent, Jonathon Parent, Joseph Parent, Caitlin Fuller, Dakota Fuller, Julia Mickiewicz, and Sarah Mickiewicz, each of whom he supported in every endeavor.

Paul will be remembered for his kind heart and his readiness to lend a helping hand. He had a passion for life that was evident in his love of golfing, fishing, and his fondness for 'tinkering' around the house or in the garage. His spirit of generosity, warmth, and unwavering support for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him, including numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of family friends.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Aspiris St. Luke's Hospital for their kindness during this difficult time and to Sunrise Funeral Home for their support in arranging this special tribute to Paul’s life.

In this time of mourning, we take solace in the countless memories we shared with Paul and the profound impact he had on our lives. His legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to guide and inspire us all. May he rest in peace.

Visitation to be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 27th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, with Memorial Service to follow at 12:00 PM.
